Ilja Karilampi

Over the last decade Ilja Karilampi has continued to explore the aesthetics of musical and popular culture narratives, creating new effects and journeys; essentially alternative ways to look at ourselves and the surface.
Utilizing mediums such as unorthodox graphic design, video editing, laser cut aluminum, UV stickers, and rhytmic musical gestures, he conceptually creates sculptural narratives that connects the backstreets of the hood with glimmering inner city lifestyle.

Originally from Gothenburg, Sweden, and educated at Frankfurts Städelschule, Ilja Karilampi has exhibited & worked with projects such as “Non-space”, Revolver Galería, Lima (2020), ”Malmö Sessions”, Carl Kostyal, Malmö (2019), “Westafrican Roadmovie”, Erik Nordenhake, Stockholm (2018); “ARS17”, Kiasma, Helsinki (2017), and “The Chief Architect of Gangsta Rap”, MoMA PS1, New York (2011).

Essentially a storyteller, Karilampi´s output over the years has been like an odyssey: reflecting his aesthetical interests in glamorous social realism and exploring the role of the producer.
