UV print, canvas, mixed media 43x30cm 2017
This is an artwork from an exhibition produced by the Latvian Contemporary Art Center for the National Museum of Latvia in 2017. A duet of artists from different eras: Atis Ieviņš and Inga Meldere. In these new works created especially for the exhibition, Meldere follows Ievins' reflection on a TV screen, taking into consideration today's characteristic overload of visual material. She experiments with first printing the image onto fabric, then painting it over, occasionally printing on it again, or alterimg the sequence of actions. Creating light, transparent and subtle collages by means of this complex technical process, Meldere was interested in both personal and art-historical images. By highlighting various unnoticed details, the artist strived to show new possibilities for interpreting the past and the present.
