Inga Meldere
Divdabis / Double Nature
UV print, canvas, mixed media 135x98cm 2017
The artwork is from Meldere's duo exhibition in the Latvian National Museum of Art with photographer, passionate experimenter with technologies and an author of critical and ironic commentary on Soviet society, Atis Ieviņš.
The idea originates from Ieviņš' photo-screenprint TV (1980), which shows a screen of a colour television set with an empty ice hockey goal. The work is characterised by the author's interest in colour television, which was rare in Soviet Latvia, and the brief respite from the dullness of everyday life that it provided. In her new works created especially for the exhibition, Meldere continues to reflect on the subject of TV screens from a contemporary perspective, taking into consideration today's characteristic overload of visual material.
