Liste Art Fair Basel with Katja Novitskova, Inga Meldere
-
Temnikova & Kasela is delighted to present a dialogue between the works of Helsinki-based Latvian artist Inga Meldere and Amsterdam-based Estonian artist Katja Novitskova. Although they both share equally strong interests in recombining digital and analogue materials and processing found visual images, their artistic strategies are very different.
Inga Meldere
Just like the properties of human memory, Inga Meldere’s work is utterly ambivalent: her paintings perturb as much as they exhilarate, combining a sense of belonging, art historical quotes and everyday imagery. In her new series of works, Meldere’s original digital collages printed on textile are turned into paintings inspired by the switching modes between internet browsing, cultural sightseeing and printed book reading as well as social history and problematics of the Anthropocene.
Katja Novitskova
The cut-out sculptures and collages of Katja Novitskova propose a remix of scientific and poetic methodologies. They are deeply informed by the post-digital sensibilities implemented within ecological imaginaries and digital data systems. In her new work Novitskova continues her engagement with modeling software, by creating a collection of digitally rendered synthetic forms, and with neural networks, which reinterpret her older corpus of works.
