Temnikova & Kasela is pleased to announce a solo presentation by Man Yau at LISTE Art Fair Basel.

The premise of Man Yau’s artistic work is to explore the feeling of being on display and under pressure, a concept approached from the perspective of a woman and a BIPOC artist. Her sculptures and installations often incorporate objects or situations recognizable from everyday surroundings. Materials are central to her work, as are the value-laden associations tied to them. Yau draws on the cultural specificity of different material textures, along with the emotions and connotations those materials evoke. She combines familiar shapes and situations with politicised materials such as porcelain and silk, reshaping these observations to investigate concepts of value in racialised, gendered, and commonly accepted narratives.

In her art, Helsinki-based Man Yau (b. 1991) uses sculpture to address questions of identity and being exoticised. She leans on familiar shapes and situations and combines them with politicised materials such as porcelain and silk. A core aspect of her artistic work is the exploration of the values and history related to everyday objects. Yau reshapes these observations to investigate concepts of values in racialised, gendered, and commonly accepted narratives. This year, Man Yau was selected as Finland’s ‘Young Artist of the Year 2025’
