ESTHER II with Zody Burke, Edith Karlson
-
Temnikova & Kasela is pleased to present works by Edith Karlson and Zody Burke at Esther II, New York, opening May 6 and on view through May 10.
⠀
Edith Karlson (b. 1983, Tallinn) is an Estonian artist based in Tallinn. She received her BA and MA degrees in Installation and Sculpture from the Estonian Academy of Arts. Her sculptural practice centers around human and animal figures, brought to life through mixed techniques and large-scale installations.
⠀
The work exhibited at Esther was part of Karlson’s solo presentation Hora Lupi in the Estonian Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024).
⠀
Zody Burke (b. 1991, New York) is an American multimedia artist and musician currently based in Tallinn. She received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and her MA from the Estonian Academy of Arts (2024). Her work explores the complexity of American identity within late capitalism through sculpture and sound, engaging with inherited mythologies, truth, and geological time. Working across sculpture, ceramic high-relief, experimental music, illustration, video, and fiber, she has recently begun exhibiting in Europe and the U.S.
⠀
Now in its second year, the alternative art fair ESTHER will coincide with Frieze New York 2025. Initiated by Margot Samel (New York) and Olga Temnikova (Temnikova & Kasela, Tallinn), this edition takes place at the historic New York Estonia House, 243 East 34th Street, featuring 25 exhibitors from 17 cities
