Priit Pärn

Priit Pärn (b. 1946, Tallinn) lives and works in Tallinn. He graduated from the department of biology of Tartu University in 1970 and is the head of the animation department of the Estonian Academy of Arts since 2006.

Pärn has been active as a caricaturist and illustrator since the end of the 1960s and is an internationally recognised artist of animated film. He began his career when Estonia was one of the Soviet republics, using his chosen discipline to successfully deal with essential and difficult political and social issues. Pärn's films and unique style, characterised by black humour and surrealism, often comment on political systems and movements, and the condition of the society and human psyche.

Pärn has received lifetime achievement awards from ASIFA, and from the Fredrikstadt, Cracow and Zagreb film festivals. He produced 12 animated films of longer duration as director, scriptwriter and art director, and made numerous short films and commercials. Pärn is a member of the European Film Academy since 2008.
