Birth V - Hi & Bye
ceramics, mixed media 2019
For the Estonian Pavilion (58th Venice Biennale, 2019), Lemsalu gathers sculptural phantoms and disparate collaborators into an installation that gives birth to a world of shamanic force, visionary weirdness, and collective revival. While in earlier works Lemsalu engaged with the topic of death, for this exhibition she’s more concerned with life – although death wears a carnival mask in Venice anyway.
